About Me

Katelyn Sandoval.jpg

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT # 98262) with the State of California.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy from California State University, Sacramento.

My style of therapy is warm, compassionate, collaborative and understanding. I strive to create an environment where my clients feel safe to openly explore the challenges of life and relationships without fear of judgment or misunderstanding. I enjoy the opportunity to learn about the unique strengths, perspectives and abilities of my clients, while working with them to create a path for change. I am passionate about personal empowerment and self compassion and strive to help my clients love and understand themselves in a new way.

I approach each client from a holistic perspective with the belief that we are a complex combination of our past experiences, current beliefs and desires for the future.  I have over 15 years of experience working with children and families in foster and residential care, schools, college mental health, non-profit agency settings as well as teens, adults, couples and families in private practice.  I integrate multiple treatment modalities including psychodynamic, client-centered, narrative, family systems, cognitive behvioral, dialectical behavioral, gestalt and solution focused therapies.  I start my work with individuals and families from primarily a family systems perspective and my couples work is rooted in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Relational Life Therapy and Gottman Method.  However, my goal is to discover what works best for my clients and I work with the flexibility to integrate other theories and techniques based on individual needs.

It is my goal to provide the most effective counseling services available.  I am a strong believer in continuing education and consultation and consider myself a life long learner.  I strive to remain up to date on current theory, trends in psychotherapy and recent research allowing me to tailor sessions toward the individual needs of my clients.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
